What is worth the money, is good for my setup, are there any other purchases I should consider, What can the Magni/Modi stack drive and what can it not?Īs you can see I lack a lot of information, I understand I might receive conflicting information here as well but hopefully I can figure out what to buy. I am personally looking for speakers that will give rich loud sound as my PC is my current Home Audio system. It is quite confusing and overwhelming the amount of options that are out there. Although I believe almost any speaker setup is better then what I currently have ( Logitech Z523 ), I have found a lot of contradictory advice on what to use as some speakers contain their own amps, are wireless, require different levels of Power to drive them. I did my own searching for a while but I am really not experienced with audio equipment as I am still learning. I am now interested in buying speakers for use with this stack and my PC. Given how good it sounds connected to my laptop, I cant wait to get a Freya and really test it out!I originally purchased this Magni 3/Modi 3 stack to run some Sennheiser 650s. When listening to Dave Brubecks Take Five the drums were soo much more real than I had previously experienced, it put the drum kit in my room whereas the Cambridge just played a recording of the drum kit. I was also amazed at how drums sounded though the Aegir. A forest on HD TV is composed of many different greens, on a SD TV the forest is pretty much just green. I am not talking about resolution here but the vast increase of available colours. Within the first 30 minutes of listening to the Aegir I was reminded of the difference exeperienced when I switched from a SD TV to a HD TV. ![]() I can also say that the Aegir and laptop combo easily beats my old Cambridge CXA 60 integrated. I have listend to it for about 6 hours by connecting it to the headphone output of my laptop using a 3.5 mm jack to 2 RCA's cable.įrom this (very) limited test I can say that it powered both 88 dB sensitivity, 6 ohm Q Acoustic Concept 20 speakers and 90 dB sensitivity, 6 ohm Fyne F501 speakers to levels that were too loud for sustained listening from just over 2 meters away. I have not tested the Aegir extensively due to not having a proper premap. I have an Aegir and plan on getting a Freya + as soon as one is available. (I will just add that the Rogue has some great qualities.) The Rogue is not the topic of this thread so I will leave it out of these comments. My Mjolnir2 headphone amp and my large stash of headphones just gather dust. I never listen on my headphones anymore because the Aejirs are just so much more fun. I never go a whole evening without some listening. I am drawn to my listening cave every night. I am hearing detail in songs now that I've missed over a lifetime of listening to older songs. You will not be disappointed in the Freya+/Aejirs. I also have a Rogue Stereo-100 (all-tube) power amp attached to the Freya+ along with a separate set of the Paradigm Studio 100 V-3s. My speakers are Paradigm Studio 100 V-3's. I have been using a Freya+ with a pair of Aejir mono-blocks for about a year. If you don't care about that and you just want to sit back and enjoy the music without critiquing it then probably a good match. If you love the transient response and air like from a ribbon tweeter then the Linton's are probably not the speakers for you. It all depends on what you like in audio. Modi+ stacks seamlessly with a wide range of products to let you build your perfect system. I think they would be a good match with the Aegir and Freya+ based on what I have read. There is a whole thread with impressions. ![]() They are not about razor sharp transients and detail galore. But in retrospect I think they were really good at what they were. A 6ohm nominal speaker that dips to 4ohm is something that should be fine.Ĭoncurrently I auditioned the Linton Heritage Speakers at a dealer early this year. At loud levels the amp can go into protection. Schiit in Monoblock mode is concerned with 4ohm nominal speakers that dip down below to like 2 ohm. I own some Schiit products and have been following Aegir for some time.
